Listen to the song and watch a clip from a new film Лето (Summer) by avant-garde Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov. Filming was completed in the summer of 2017 in St. Petersburg without Serebrennikov being able to direct the film in person, since he was under house arrest in Moscow due to being accused of embezzling $2 million of government funds. When the film was released domestically, and selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Serebrennikov had still been under house arrest. He was released in April 2019 after some 20 months.
The film is about the early years of two pre- perestroika-era rock groups, Kino and Zoopark. The protagonists of the film are Viktor Tsoi (Teo Yoo), who later headed the now legendary Soviet rock group Kino; Mikhail (Mike) Naumenko (Roman Bilyk), the lead singer and song writer of Zoopark. Mike Naumenko, the author of the song and already a star of rock-underground in 1981, dedicated this song to a future star Viktor Tsoi.
